Well, here they are, my currently published works of fiction are described in brief on this page.
AFTER BREXIT In 2016, Britain’s political class brought schism and rancour to the nation, the referendum on membership of the European Union (EU) dividing countries, workplaces and families in a manner unseen since the seventeenth century. The government’s incompetence displayed in the subsequent withdrawal negotiations did nothing to heal the rift in society and, following the United Kingdom’s eventual exit from the EU, the opposing sides, Leaver and Remainer, continued their hostilities. As economic and social conditions worsened, civil war erupted onto the streets. In this unhappy shape the nation was prey to all manner of self-styled saviours. One, a visitor from a Britain of the future, becomes the medium through which to escape the miserable conditions that the politicians had naïvely delivered. But is it possible truly to escape the past?
HIS ORGY OF CRIME follows the exploits of a teenage misfit as he descends inexorably into a life of crime. His misdemeanours reflect the sharp mind of a high IQ and his peers are, paradoxically, lessened by comparison. Based on a true history from not so long ago, but when social values were considerably different than today’s, this tale also questions just how far should we be held responsible for the actions of others.
JUSTICE In this novel take on time travel, a cryonics research trial propels the unwitting Jonny Lazarus into the 22nd century, where the nobs speak Elizabethan, the Russian Czar is improbably a woman and a quantum computer becomes his guardian. He has seemingly escaped the nuclear winter brought on by a catastrophic US-North Korean thermonuclear exchange but his experience of the re-emergent future is coloured by his propensity to consume a variety of recreational drugs. Will they be his doom or his salvation?
ORIGINS In a future that is plausibly close, with North Sea oil extinguished, the UK government has failed and the Chinese prop up a powerless Scottish administration. Redundant oil towns are become enforced settlements for middle-eastern migrants, whilst advances in technology threaten the extinction of civil liberty nationwide. Into this cultural morass a motley band of Scottish partisans struggles against a shifting power base where political idealism is exchanged for high-tech tyranny, when an old man plots to reinvent Scotland as a virtual Xanadu. A fast moving adventure that probes the power of fate and free will.
PREFERRED LIES A young man in search of a truth, an unravelling of concealed events that defined him as a child, in a gripping story that weaves through two world wars to the social upheaval of the 1960s. A speculative and thrilling journey through personal histories and early twentieth-century values.
If you like what you read please tell your friends and acquaintances. I am not a media personality and I do not have friends on the inside of the publishing fraternity, so I am heavily dependent on you, dear reader, to spread the word about my books. If you can spare a few minutes to add a review on Amazon it would make my day – just click on a thumbnail image!
